NZFW17

Being a fashion blogger, fashion week is THE place to be. It’s got everything; food, wine, music and the most important of it all- HIGH FASHION. This was the very first time I attended New Zealand Fashion Week and I felt like a child at a theme park. I wanted to experience EVERYTHING! I had to have their wine, their food and buy little knick knacks from the pop up stores. It felt like the right thing to do.

I got invited to three shows this year – Kate Sylvester, NZ Weddings Magazine and Flo and Frankie. Accompanying me to these shows was none other than my fiancé, who also is my photographer – had to keep him handy for a quick outfit shot on the day!

DAY THREE OF FASHION WEEK

Kate Sylvester, “Electric Dreams”, was one show I did not want to miss- and Kate delivered an amazing show! I was so wowed at her collection. Every piece that came on the runway had me drooling! There were so many colours, and the outfits that were put together were perfect with each little detail.

Finale shot for Kate Sylvester

NZ Weddings Magazine fashion showcase was a collection of NZ designers and bridal wear boutiques for women and men. I got invited to the NZ Weddings Magazine show by Katie Yeung for Hera Couture and Daisy. Katie’s pieces on the runway blew me away. They were so simple, elegant and gave  that class to a bridal look. With my own wedding coming up, I took away so many ideas from her collection on the day! Below are some of my favourite shots that I took from the show (as you can see, I have something for the back of dresses <3 )

All in all the whole bridal wear show left me in awe! All the pieces on the runway from all the designers and bridal boutiques were immaculate <3

The final show for my NZFW experience was Flo and Frankie’s first ever runway show. The pieces from Flo and Frankie’s collections were so fun and uplifting and it felt great to be part of a vibrant fashion show. I would love to snag some of those pieces for my blog!

Rubi Shoes

Shoes are my own guilty pleasure. I own over a hundred pairs of shoes and am emotionally attached to every one of them. When Rubi Shoes approached me to feature their next and upcoming line of “Sock Boots” on my blog, I was quite excited. Having worn many of the Rubi Shoe brands in my teenage years, I knew how fun and stylish these pieces would be.

Having the perfect pair of shoes, for me, is the most important part of an outfit. It’s the essential finishing touch that pulls the whole look together. Sometimes, as long as your shoes are on point, you can even get away with some basic clothes.

How to – Soft beach waves

IMG_6086.jpgYou know those days when you have that perfect wavy hair and it makes life that much sweeter? Yes, I do too. And below I have compiled a short instruction how to achieve this very easy look!

WHAT YOU NEED

IMG_6130.jpg

STEP 1

The most important step for this look is to have “gritty” hair. You need some matter in your hair to actually make the waves stay in. I’ve got quite dry and silky hair so in order to get this look, I hadn’t washed my hair for four days ( gross, I know..). Some people like to spray their hair with hair spray prior to curling which helps your hair to get gritty as well.

STEP 2

Section your hair. I normally do a half up and half down so that I can work on both sides of my hair equally.

STEP 3

Grab about 1.5 to 2 inches worth of hair and clamp the area closest to the roots between the heated plates. ( If you aren’t using a ghd and have a straightener with controlled temperature, then 180 degrees would do the trick).

Twirl the whole hair straightener towards the back of your head once and then glide the hair straighter down the length of the strand. Have you ever curled a piece of ribbon with scissors? This works a lot similar to that where you don’t need to keep twirling the hair straightener, only one twirl at the beginning would do the job.

Once you are at the end of the strand, unclamp the hair straighter and you would see a soft wave/curl. Hair spray this straight away so that it holds it’s shape.

STEP 4

Repeat this step through out your whole head. Because this look is meant to be more “softer” I normally leave some strands straight and curl in between these. Or sometimes I start the twirl mid-strand so only the bottom of the hair is curled. It is completely up to you on how many curls you would like to get in.

STEP 5

My fringe is quite long at the moment, so rather than curling my whole fringe, I grab the strands between the plates and glide it down the fringe ( as how you would do when normally straightening your hair) but when reaching the bottom, turn the hair straightener towards the back of your head. What this would do is blend your fringe into the waves at the back of your head, rather than having really strong curls around your face.

STEP 6

After all my hair is curled, I normally give is another round of hair spray and then run my fingers through my hair and untangle some of the curls. This just adds extra volume to the hair.

These are 6 very easy steps to get the look. I can normally get this done in about 10 minutes with my long hair. The trick to this style is the condition of your hair when you are curling. Unfortunately, clean and silky hair won’t be able to hold the curls in at all and you will eventually find that you having to go over the same strand a few times to make it stay.  Having 3-4 days between washes for your hair is about the right condition for having curls to hold in. If your hair is quite greasy then you are best to make that judgement call on your own. This style definitely takes a few attempts to nail down; remember, practice makes perfect!

Three easy but sassy looks for Valentines

With Valentines Day just a week away, I thought I would put together my 3 looks for your Valentine’s date <3

LOOK #1

Floral, Lace and Sass

Cape : Mirrou

Handbag: Farmers

This is my fave look out of the three, so for obvious reasons, I will talk about it first  😛

Floral and Lace <3 . The best two combinations that a girl can put together on an outfit; they practically complete each other! And what better way to woo your Valentine in one of your best floral number.

This is the floral look in particular that I chose to put together for the post. If you read waaaaaayy back to a blog post I made about a year ago, I LOVE capes! I think capes add a very glamorous touch to any simple outfit. Throw on a nice floral cape with lace hemming on a nude coloured dress and you have yourself a very flirty Valentine’s lunch outfit!

  • Hair
    • Pull your hair up in a low messy bun; pull some loose strands around your face to soften the look. This will take away from the bagginess of the cape and outfit.
  • Makeup
    • This being a day time outfit, it is nicer to compliment the lighter shades of the outfit with just Foundation, Concealer and Bronzer. Give yourself  winged eyes and smack on some “Cheerleader” HUDA Liquid Matte Gloss and you are good to go!
    • ( If you read my latest travel post to Sydney, you will see how CRAZY I went with shopping for make up and the “HUDA beauty liquid matte glosses” is my new fav thing! I will be making a post on how much I love them very soon! If you haven’t had a chance to read my blog post, here is the link => A Shopper’s guide to three days in Sydney)
  • Fragrance
    • Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream will add the finishing touch to your floral get up <3

LOOK #2

A Sweet and Simple Look

img_5028
Skirt : Glassons
img_5029
Cardigan : Forever New

img_5884

Nothing can beat a simple black and white duo. Grab a white tank top, tuck it in a black pencil midi length skirt and pair it with a grey cardigan. This look can’t be limited to one time of the day. You can rock this for an early morning breakfast date, a luncheon or even at the dinner table <3

  • Hair
    • A side bohemian braid on straight hair will do the perfect trick to add a little glam to your black and white combo
  • Makeup
    • Switch up the “Cheerleader HUDA liquid matte gloss” with something a little bold; having a simple outfit allows you to get away with some dark lips
      • Step 1 : Line and fill in your lips with “HUDA lip contour – Famous”
      • Step 2 : Go over with “HUDA liquid matte – Material Girl”
  • Fragrance
    • Marc Jacobs Decadence has an amazing spicy floral smell to it <3

LOOK #3

Rock your Playsuit

img_5006
Playsuit : Dotti
img_5013
Blazer : Chiffon Boutique

img_5885

Playsuits are great; it gives you the feel of wearing a dress, but without the fear of them flying up in the wind ;p

Pair floral or colourful playsuit up with a black blazer, and you will be looking fashionably classy at your dinner date.

  • Hair
    • Having your hair out will take away from the staunclook of the blazer- your choice if you would like it straight or in waves
  • Makeup
    • Being a night time look, you can go heavy on your contouring by using a cream contour palette ( in this case I used my new fav ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS contour palette) underneath a powder bronzer.
    • I went back to using “Cheerleader HUDA liquid matte” for softer lip colour
  • Fragrance
    • I usually save my Ted Baker Langley perfume for my special nights out. It has a very strong spicy musk smell that I absolutely love which can be a bit heavy for day time wear.

Well there you have it! My three favourite looks for Valentines 2017. I hope these spark some great ideas for your dates!

Please let me know what you thought of the outfit ideas and what ideas of your own you have come up with!
